Have Biffy Clyro earned the right to headline the Glastonbury Festival?
The three-piece outfit made up Simon Neil and brothers Ben and James Johnston say they’re ready and raring to headline the world’s biggest music festival, however the question remains whether they’re actually deserving of the spot.
Here’s what frontman Simon Neil had to say during the interview at London’s Roundhouse: “My phone is not on silent! We’re ready for the call should it come!
“Obviously Glastonbury is an institution that you can’t say too much about, we’ve had many great appearances there over the years, we’re waiting for that call, we’re ready, we’re ready.”
No strangers to headlining big festivals
Biffy Clyro headlined Download Festival back in 2017 in what was one of their most successful years as they celebrated their second No. 1 album ‘Ellipsis’ at the same time.
To step up and headline a major rock and metal festival with a very demanding audience took balls. Some people will tell you that they were the wrong fit and they had no right to share the stage with Aerosmith and System of a Down, others will tell you that they smashed it and symbolised a welcome change.
Whatever you thought about their inclusion amongst the top download festival headliners, they certainly brought their A-game and impressed us.
Should Biffy Clyro headline Glastonbury?
When you look at past headliners at the world famous Glastonbury Festival it’s fair to say there’s always been one solid alternative headliner.
Foo Fighters, The Killers, Radiohead, Muse and Arcade Fire are all bands that have taken to the Pyramid Stage in the last few years, and all have stolen the show in their own right.
We think it’s absolutely fair to say that whilst Biffy Clyro aren’t on the same level as a couple of the bands in that small list, they certainly don’t look out of place amongst them.
So, in conclusion. Yes! We do genuinely believe Biffy Clyro should be asked to headline Glastonbury Festival. They’ve stepped up to the plate before.
These boys have some face melting bangers in their locker, we’d certainly not be opposed to seeing them headline in 2020 or beyond. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
